ultron

It is now three years ago that The Avengers hit international cinemas, breaking Box Office records and sending adoring lifelong Marvel fans and appreciative film goers alike into a frenzy. Since then the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) each scoring a new film, and the franchise shot into space with the nostalgic space opera Guardians of the Galaxy. Joss Whedon is back to write and direct Age of Ultron, which will deliver everything fans of the franchise could possibly hope for, while exceeding most of the prior instalments in scope and fun.

I’ve been a Scarlett Johansson fan since Lost in Translation and I’m excited by how prolific she has been in recent years. From superhero films, to sci-fi thrillers and now a sci-fi action, the lady does pick interesting and varied projects. In Lucy Scarlett appears to undergo an incredible transformation after a drug package bursts in her gut. The trailer makes it seem like a darker, more violent version of Limitless.

According to the film’s website, Lucy is “an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic”.

Writer-director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Leon: The Professional) has brought us impressive female-led action in the past(such as La Femme Nikita), but I haven’t really liked many of his more recent films. I’ll be interested to see how this one pans out come August when it is set to be released.

Captain America may have been engineered as the World’s greatest solider, but he’s also a man with scruples and morals, he fights for the greatest good. What will he do when all he fights for is called into question? My review of Captain America: The Winter Soldier after the jump.

Okay, so I feel like I’ve had my head in the sand. Until the trailer for Her dropped today, I had never heard of the film. Considering the pedigree of those involved, I’m wondering if I need my head checked.
Written and directed by Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adapatation, Where the Wild Things Are), the film stars Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix.

The official synopsis is as follows (via The Playlist)

In the not so distant future, Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), a lonely writer purchases a newly developed operating system designed to meet the user’s every needs. To Theodore’s surprise, a romantic relationship develops between him and his operating system. This unconventional love story blends science fiction and romance in a sweet tale that explores the nature of love and the ways that technology isolates and connects us all

Apart from the fact the premise sounds interesting (Siri to a total new level?), I was completely blown away by the fact Joaquin Phoenix can actually smile. Seriously, watch that trailer and see for yourself! It’s magical.

What do you think? Is this film now on your must-see radar?
