New Zealand film lovers, now is your time to get excited. The Auckland programme for this year’s New Zealand International Film Festival is now online and it is good. It is very good. The Auckland leg of the festival will kick off with the New Zealand première of Steven Soderbergh’s Behind the Candelabra, and will close with Jim Jarmusch’s newest film, Only Lovers Left Alive. The festival is rich with Cannes titles, including Asghar Farhadi’s The Past, Kore-eda Hirokazu’s Jury Award winner, Like Father, Like Son, and Singaporean kid-vs-nanny tale Ilo Ilo, which was awarded the Caméra d’Or for best first film in all of Cannes.

Later this week Wellington audiences will get their turn to get busy with highlighters, when the Wellington programme is launched on Thursday. Check back on the site later this week for our in-depth look at the programme, including recommendations and links to films which we have already reviewed.
