After three films back-to-back I still had the closing night film Mental and the closing night party left attend on Saturday. Sunday I had 2 films planned, while Monday was put aside just for relaxing before heading home. Part 3 of my MIFF/Melbourne diary is after the jump.

After a busy first day in Melbourne, I had an even busier 2nd day lined up. Firstly a mission for some tasty brunch, and then 4 films and the closing night party. After the jump check out Part 2 of my Melbourne diary, including my thoughts on Undefeated, Ruby Sparks, and The Suicide Shop.

miff2012

I have just returned from Melbourne where I attended my first ever Melbourne International Film Festival. While I only managed to see 8 films, I also did some sightseeing, ate a heap of great food, and most importantly met lots of fantastic film-loving people. After the jump is part 1 of my “Melbourne Diary” – thoughts on the films, the city, and just a holiday diary of sorts. This is a little different than what I usually post, but I thought it would be fun to document the trip.

The_Imposter

Being the film mad person that I am, I don’t take holidays, I go to film festivals. This is probably a more exhausting exercise than actually working, but it is oh so rewarding. Getting to see the amazing range of films and meet such a fantastic group of people only happens at film festivals – they are magical, magical places.

Due to work commitments and the fact that I want to try to see some of the city, I’ll only be seeing 9 films during my time in Melbourne (you know you’re a film nut when you think 9 films in 3 days isn’t many…but it really isn’t).

Below is my MIFF schedule. I hope to see some of you there. While I won’t be reviewing or posting on the site while I’m in Melbourne, I will be active on the Twitters ( @sakura_59).

4.00pm – In the Fog
6.30pm – The Imposter

MIFF2012

Australia’s biggest annual film event, the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) has launched it’s 61st programme, with an amazing array of films ranging from home-grown Australian gems, to Cannes award winners.

From the official website:

The Melbourne International Film Festival launched its 61st program last night, announcing P.J. Hogan’s Mental will close the Festival on Saturday 18 August.

“How wonderful that we are able to book-end the 2012 MIFF with what will surely be two of the biggest Australian films of the year, in The Sapphires and Mental. Featuring an incredible ensemble cast, P.J. Hogan’s new film is as outrageously fun as it is smart and moving,” said Artistic Director Michelle Carey

After the jump, check out more details on the films and tickets.
