An Online Universe is a site dedicated to the love of all things film. We feature regular reviews of newly-released films, as well as interesting discussion on and information about film. We cover most major Australian cinema releases, with a particular focus on independent cinema and film festivals.
Please note that all star ratings are out of a possible 5 stars.
Sam McCosh (Editor): Sam is a New Zealander who is obsessed with all things film. There is no place she is more at home than at a film festival, seeing dozens of films from just about every genre/walk of life imaginable. Sam’s work can be found on other sites/podcasts such as, The Popcorn Junkie, Andy Buckle’s Film Emporium, and Cinematica (Podcast). Sam is a member of the Australian Film Critics Association (AFCA); a critic on Choc Bomb; and a member of The Large Association of Movie Blogs (LAMB). Sam is available for freelance work. Feel free to contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can follow Sam on Twitter at @Sam_McCosh.
Chris Elena: From making films to seeing films until ultimately critiquing them. His passion quickly turned to an obsession upon writing about the films he loves and even sometimes the ones he doesn’t understand the existence of. Where there’s a Shawn Levy (Just Married, anything manufactured) there’s also a Paul Thomas Anderson (The greatest filmmaker alive in his humble opinion, many mentions of him are had in his writings). Optimism still remains in his books when it comes to film, no matter the forever changing climate. Chris is an AFCA approved writer/member. Follow Chris on Twitter at @Christoph_Elena.
Ben Buckingham: Since his father accidentally took him to see Robocop when he was four years old, Ben Buckingham has been obsessed with cinema. The passion for social theory came later, along with a fascination for post-humanism and assorted other -isms. When he isn’t working hard behind the scenes in cinema exhibition he is writing a book on the confluence of pre-modern traditions of cannibalism in post-modern horror cinema and its relationship to social crises. He also likes art with bunnies. Follow Ben on Twitter at @dissolvedpet.
Johnson Hii: Johnson Hii is a psychologist-in-training and an insanely dedicated film buff. You know that guy who starts speaking exclusively in Gladiator and Lord of the Rings quotes whenever he gets drunk at parties? That’s him. The guy whose room is covered in Scarface posters and who has a model of a DeLorean on his desk? Him again. The guy who lives in a house constructed entirely of film stock and broken movie cameras? Well, that’s not him. Not yet, anyway… Johnson also has a strong interest in history, languages and culture, all of which you can get from movies like The Godfather and Schindler’s List but not from the newest Adam Sandler release, hence his desire to write film reviews for your viewing pleasure and edification.
