Feb 012013

In 2012 I did quarterly film round-ups., and while I quite enjoyed doing this I found it a little hard to remember what I’d seen almost three months previously. So in 2013 I have decided to do monthly round-ups of my viewings.

This month has been a very busy month personally, and I struggled to find spare time to watch films. Hopefully things will change in February and I’ll be able to enjoy my shiny new TV a bit more.

After the jump check out my round-up for January 2013.

Screenings refers to anything I have seen at the cinema/on the big screen.

New at home encompasses new-to-me, first-time viewings on DVD/Blu-ray/VOD/Screeners

Rewatches things I’ve seen before

Best viewing: my favourite viewing in each of the categories listed above

Apart from the ‘Best Viewing’, films are listed in the order they were viewed in.

Best viewing: Django Unchained

Gangster Squad
Zero Dark Thirty
The Sweeney
Anna Karenina
Silver Linings Playbook

New at Home

Best viewing: How to Survive a Plague

American Graffiti
Bottle Rocket
2001: A Space Odyssey

Best viewing: Looper

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
Die Hard: With A Vengence
Hot Fuzz
2001: A Space Odyssey

As you can see, not many films! In fact only 18 viewings in the whole of January. The quality of most of the screenings was fantastic however, with four of the nine Academy Award nominees among them. I cannot praise Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty enough, and I hope that I get the time to rewatch them in cinemas sometime this month.

My goal for February is to catch up on some films that we own on dvd/blu but I’m yet to see. I really want to watch the Three Colours Trilogy as well as some of the beautiful new Criterions we bought just before Christmas.
