The Producers and Actors guilds have each given our their annual awards in ceremonies held over the weekend, with Argo fearing well in both. The Academy Award nominee for Best Picture picked up (for producers Ben Affleck, George Clooney and Grant Heslov) won the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures at the PGA Awards; while at the SAG Awards, Argo took home the honours for best ensemble cast. The winner of the PGA award for best film has won the Best Picture Oscar the last 5 years in a row [source], and all but 7 times in the last 24 years. Is Argo a certainty? No, of course not, but it is making the race for the big one even more exciting.
Jennifer Lawrence strengthened her chances in the Best Actress race, taking home the SAG for her role in Silver Linings Playbook. Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Actor SAG and seems to be a certainty to win the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Abraham Lincoln.
