Zero-Dark-Thirty

In the lead up to the Academy Awards, Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty has been awarded another best film accolade, this time from the National Board of Review. Last year the group picked Hugo as it’s best film; Hugo then went on to be nominated for and win multiple Academy Awards.

Bradley Cooper was the perhaps surprise best actor winner (for Silver Linings Playbook), beating out front-runner Daniel Day Lewis (Lincoln).

Festival favourite Beasts of the Southern Wild was recognised with a best directorial début awarded to Benh Zeitlin, and the  breakthrough actress award going to Quvenzhané Wallis. Breakthrough male actor was awarded to Tom Holland for his performance in the yet-to-be released in Australia The Impossible.

It was great to see fantastic documentary Searching For Sugar Man pick up best documentary  while best animated feature went to Disney’s Wreck-it Ralph.
