italian film fest

The full line-up has been announced and tickets are now on sale for the 13th annual LavAzza Italian Film Festival. Starting in Melbourne on September 19, the festival will hold over 1300 screenings across five major Australian cities. Showcasing over 30 films sourced from festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, Rome and Venice – the festival is sure to have something for everyone.

The festival will open with Welcome to the North, the follow-up from the highly successful and well-received Welcome to the South which opened the festival in 2011. The festival will close with director Woody Alan’s latest film To Rome with Love.

Other highlights include the beautiful and moving Taviani brothers film Caesar Must Die, which won the Golden Bear Award at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival (my review of the film can be viewed (here); Marco Tullio Giordana’s highly anticipated Piazza Fontana: The Italian Conspiracy; Cannes Grand Prix winning Reality directed by award-winning film-maker Matteo Garrone; and quirky ghost tale Magnificent Presence.
